Richard Gardner

Artist Biography

As a young boy, like most people, Richard was given a camera for a present and started taking photographs. Mainly of family and holiday shots, but never getting overly excited, until the film was developed and you collected the packet of photographs to see what he had captured.

Then later, in his teenage years he went to stay with a friend in Bath who took him to Longleat, which hadn’t long been open, where he lent him his camera to take some photographs of the wild and exotic animals that were running around loose within their compounds.

When they returned to his home, they went into his darkroom to develop and print Richards pictures, which he thought was amazing and he still has his first photograph that he developed.

Unfortunately, although having an interest, he never developed this further and this is something he has always regretted.

Richard has dabbled over the years, like most of us, and have produced a few photographs that he is very happy with, but has always felt he could do better.

Recently, as many of you will now, Richard opened the Gallery No1 website and this has given him a kick up the backside to try and spend more time on his own photographs and to see if he is capable of producing works that people would like to own.

Richard has now started an evening class at college to try and improve his skills. Completing the Level 1 course early in 2023, he has now started a year long Level 2 course and it is hoped to start adding a few more images to his selection soon.

Richards main interest is in portraits and street photography and he hopes that he will be able to add to his selection over the coming years.
