A collection of photographs taken on the streets of the United Kingdom, or were they?  Without the context of a broader scene, many of the shots highlight the day-to-day mystery of life and the emotions that arise out of it.

Matthew Wardell is a photographer based in Southampton. Having an interest and passion for the arts he began his artistic journey in 2006, the beginning of 7 years of arts education, ending in 2013, when he graduated from Southampton Solent University with a First-Class Honours Degree.

After graduating from Solent University in 2013 he was given the Graduate Artist in Residence Award – a residency in conjunction with Solent Showcase Gallery. Ending in the group show ‘Six Degrees Forward’. Matthew was then given a place on Goldsmiths MFA course, where he learnt a great deal about student debt. Having completed the first year, due to financial restrictions he had no choice but to leave the course.

Over the last couple of years his focus has turned to photography, but his background in the arts remains evident. At present his output can only be described as interdisciplinary: a mixture of street, macro and abstract photography, with much of his work building bridges between the different disciplines.
